
The Croatian National Bank will on 14 July 2025 release into circulation the commemorative 2-euro coin "1 100th Anniversary of the Kingdom of Croatia and the Coronation of King Tomislav". The exchange of the commemorative coin for the public will begin on 8 September 2025.
The motif on the commemorative coin features King Tomislav, who was crowned King of Croatia in 925. This year is considered to be the beginning of a very important 1 100th anniversary of the Kingdom of Croatia, with an extremely rich historical, cultural and political significance for the Republic of Croatia (hereinafter referred to as: commemorative coin). The depiction of the monument of King Tomislav was one of the main motifs on the reverse side of the 1000-kuna banknote.
Date of release into circulation: The commemorative coin is released in circulation on 14 July 2025 and the exchange of commemorative coins for the public will begin on 8 September 2025.
Technical specification: The commemorative 2-euro coin is minted according to the technical specifications for the 2-euro circulation coin in accordance with Council Regulation (EU) No 729/2014 of 24 June 2014 on denominations and technical specifications of euro coins intended for circulation.
Description of the national side of the commemorative coin: The national side of the commemorative coin features the main motif of King Tomislav on a horse. The background of the main motif features Croatia's distinctive symbol, the Croatian checkerboard, which represents part of the coat of arms of the Republic of Croatia laid down in the Act on the Coat of Arms, Flag and Anthem of the Republic of Croatia and on the Flag and the Sash of the President of the Republic of Croatia (Official Gazette 55/1990, 26/1993 and 29/1994). The coin also features the following inscriptions: "KRALJ TOMISLAV” (King Tomislav), the year of coronation of King Tomislav "925.", the issuing country "REPUBLIKA HRVATSKA" (Republic of Croatia) and the year of issuance "2025.", which are inscribed circularly along the edge of the coin’s core.
The commemorative coin’s national side outer ring depicts the 12 stars of the European flag.
The edge lettering of the commemorative coin features the text "O LIJEPA O DRAGA O SLATKA SLOBODO" (Oh beautiful, oh dear, oh sweet freedom) from the Hymn to Freedom, which is an integral part of the pastoral play "Dubravka" by the 17th century Croatian writer Ivan Gundulić.
