CNB issues gold and silver coins

The Croatian National has issued gold and silver collector coins "Slavoljub Penkala’s Innovations" belonging to the series of collector coins "Croatian Innovators" with commemorative motifs featuring Slavoljub Eduard Penkala, one of the greatest Croatian innovators, whose surname Penkala came to be used to refer to ballpoint pens in the Croatian language. His greatest and most famous invention, the automatic mechanical pencil, known as "penkala" in Croatian, is one of the inventions by Croatian innovators still used throughout the world today. His work has been recognised as being a significant part of cultural and scientific heritage of the Republic of Croatia and the world. The gold coin is issued in the 100 euro denomination and the silver coin is issued in the 4 euro denomination.

The author of the design of the gold and silver collector coin is Ilaria Longo. The gold and silver coins are minted in brilliant uncirculated condition and will be released for sale on 10 July 2025. The total issued quantity of the 100 euro gold collector coin is limited to 100 pieces and that of the 4 euro silver coin is limited to 1,000 pieces.

The gold and silver coins will be sold by the Croatian Mint. The initial selling price of the 100 euro gold coin is expected to range around EUR 3,564.95, and that of the 4 euro silver coin around EUR 79.99, VAT included. The selling price at the time of purchase will depend on the movement in gold and silver prices in the open market.
